Zacuto Films presents, The Great Camera Shootout 2010: a three part web series where gunslinging HD DSLRs face-off against legendary 35mm Film. The webisodic series showcases the top performing hybrid HD-DSLR cameras: Canon: 5D MKII, 7D, 1D, 550D/T2i Rebel, Nikon D3s, Panasonic GH1 and compares the image quality of these cameras against the gold standard of 35mm film. In addition, the Canon 5D MKII test includes the new 24p firmware. "This was an enormous undertaking," says Steve Weiss, Web Series Director, "and great care was to make this an apples-to-apples test with scientific accuracy behind it." Coming March 24, 2010 only at http://www.zacuto.com/shootout

Each webisode of the series features various controlled camera assessment tests which include: resolution, latitude, sensitivity, speed & ultra high speed, noise, color & green screen. The battery of tests were administered under strict controls and conducted by Robert Primes ASC, Gary Adcock, Philip Bloom, Jens Bogehegn and colorist Ryan Emerson.

See the reactions to this test following 2K screenings, where HD DSLR is compared to 35mm Film. The test results were projected in a 2K theatrical environment at three screening locations: Stag Theater at Skywalker Ranch, LucasFilms Ltd., AFI (American Film Institute) Theater in Hollywood and the FilmWorkers Astro Color Timing Theater in Chicago. Hear commentary from the screenings by top ASC, Hollywood, Indie Film and Event & Convergence Photographers.

  • Amazing work TEAM :)

    You people ROCK :)

  • @shamsham1983 Film beat the 7d didn't it? But 7d/t2i/550d had the best of the digital cameras.

  • @jameshoda First of all resolution is one of the least important factors when it comes to simply looking at it. Secondly if you actually look at the tests they do talk about resolution. Thirdly the resolution of film is somewhere below 4k, that can be beat by digital cinema cameras.

  • wow..amazing..awesome..just watched this in webmovietube

  • @jameshoda however most films are scanned at 2K for DI so there is no difference. Also in the next year most cities will be projecting almost all the films with 2K projectors...Unless you manage to go and watch a 4K presentation. But like I said before most films are scanned at 2K.

  • @jameshoda THANK YOU!

  • The only thing missing is Clint Eastwood and a Fist Full Of Dollars....

    Conceptually WELL DONE

  • @shamsham1983 550D has the same Sensor then the 7D ... but 7D the better Body... so use the results of the 7D ;)

  • they should re do this contest except with the hacked GH1. That thing is amazing.

  • @shamsham1983 I thought they said they didn't use the 550d because because it was so similar to the 7d.
