Me blowing the barrel of my .45 Springfield 1911. You can see the burst of flame on my 4th shot. The gun jammed on the 5th shot with a bulged barrel. Recoil on that shot was intense as the slide did not move at all. I now have a new LNL AP press to replace the Lee 1000 that I had been using.
I also went to a Tanfogilio LC in .40 a few weeks later. The 1911 now has a new barrel and is doing well.

  • I'm late to the video but what was the cause? The slide "jammed"? What the *&%?

  • @cptexas1 Barrel expanded into the side........................double charge of powder will do that.

  • somehow i don't believe that it took a SLEDGE HAMMER to free the barrel. A good gun smith yes. A sledge hammer!!! really? I don't think so. And if you did use a sledge hammer your an idiot.

  • @cauterful Did I say an 8 lb sledge?

    nope.........

There are all sorts of sledge hammers out there............and that is all we had at the time to clear it.

That makes YOU the idiot I guess.

  • Dont overload on powder.

  • Range officer: " that ain't good"

    lol

  • I would have cried if I was him

  • +P+ = "+o+"

  • @Cozmolyne

I would be happier if the entire firearm was USA made but it still held up fine. Besides, Springfield Armory is a private company that bought the name. It is not the same Springfield Armory that built firearms for the US armed forces.

Hey now, I'm not dissing 1911's, they're my favorite pistols and I hate Glock fanboys with a passion. I'm just not comfortable with the frame being made in country with lower quality standards. I also guess I'm a bit pissed a Springfield, a maker of some of the finest firearms in American history, would go low and outsource.

  • @Cozmolyne

So you wouldn't buy a firearm that held up even though it was fed a double charge? If that was a Glock you would be digging plastic out of your hand.

  • what springfield did you have?

  • This is why I don't buy stuff made in developing countries.
