Respirocytes: An Artificial Red Blood Cell Replacement

Animation of a respirocyte (an artificial red blood cell) being injected into the bloodstream.

We created the animation for the PBS / Devillier Donegan production "Beyond Human."
It has gone on to win the IMM Computational Nanotechnology Prize (Simulation), has appeared in lectures
by AI pioneer Ray Kurzweil and nanotechnology pioneers Robert Freitas, David Forrest and Ralph Merckle,
and was recently included in BBC2 Horizon's nanotechnology programme "The Dark Secret of Hendrik Schoen."

Can't wait for respirocytes. Not just cause its gonna be bad ass and I know I'm gonna get more than 10 percent of my red blood cells amount but because it will improve the human condition. What thousands and thousands have generations have suffered, we can make better. Its a beautiful thought really. We have the chance now to elevate ourselves and our children to new heights.

If Kurzweil's predictions regarding Moore's law are right, even things as complex as this, are going to be nullified by the ridiculous amount of computational capacity of similar sized quantum computers. I am going to flip a s*** when dendrite/axon infused nanobots allow us to think at the speed of light (if we find it to still exist)... or rather I'm going to THINK about flipping a S*** and refrain because of it's lack of efficiency

acording to Ray Kurzweil, replacing just 10% of your red blood cells with these will let you run as fast as usain bolt for much much further distances than 100metres. Also they allow you to hold your breath for 4 hours..
