this fans can put some ice cube on the water holder and pour just little of water then the ice melt and the cool water into the cooler pillar and the cool air can created! i saw my friend doing this when i was a kid and we really love it.

Wow! I don't care if it doesn't work as an A/C - that is a damn cool fan, with the 70's styling and all!
Where did you get yours?

Thanks for posting the video I saw this in the fan gallery and wondered how it worked.

the third was a Carol Wright fan and it was sky-blue in color. The Air Coolers looked like this one.

I've had 3: two marked "Air Cooler", and another from one of those novelty catalogs.

The theory behind this is like that used in evaporative coolers (swamp coolers)....the full sized coolers have fibreglass pads which enclose the 3 rear sides of the unit and have a pump to keep them saturated.
I don't think this portable unit really has enough pad area to work as well as the full sized units. Also to feel the cooling effect any type of evaporative cooler needs to be used in a very low humidity environment.

Oh yeah I know, My aunt in New Mexico has got a swamp cooler on her house, what I mean by this not working well is that even if the water does get through the holes it slides down the sticks and collects in the bottom tray, generally though the water will have become room temperature by this time anyway, making this nothing more than a battery fan. I referred to it as an air conditioner because that's what it says on it
