I'm playing this song for an audition, and I only saw Primose's version, unsure of the tempo. I'm glad I found this video because I definitely prefer the tempo ; It sounds clearer and more expressive.

So this is what they mean by 'World class playing'...

Bellissimo!!!!
Roberto.

The clarity of his playing just blows my mind

It is not by Handel, but it should be. Like the anecdote of Brahms giving an autoghraph and writing the first bars of The Blue Danube of his friend Josef Strauss, "regrettably, not by Brahms".

I've had this piece for about years now, and I'm finally going to use it because I actually found a very nice recording that I can deal with. As for the dispute between Primrose and Barshai for their tempos, I think of it in terms of the era. I don't think the people back then would think that their "Allegro" was as fast as ours. Plus, this is moderately fast, hence "Allegro moderato" being the tempo marking of the piece. This is really good though, and I have to learn this by March. killjoy....

Although I like Primrose's interpretation as well, I prefer this tempo. Seems to relish the mood, and sound a bit more sensitive.
