@TheRitchardgaleHater it was a stylistic choice by Alfred Hitchcock. It made the film more reminiscent of a Film Noir, and tricked the viewer at the beginning to believing it was some kind of heist film. I think there were other reasons, too, but that's the best.

Why was this movie black and white when Rear Window, which came out 6 years earlier, is in color???

@EmmaJaneMurdock Suresies :-D I don't know if it was intentional or not, but I was reminded of a bird the way he sort of slowly moves in, tilting his head. I figure that's not too random, because of the whole bird motif in Hitchcock's movies.

No only was hitchcock a film master hence his fame for the shower scene, but he rather was ahead his time by introducing the deep psychological issues of a criminally insane pyscho killer when most films were just beginning to explore these realistic psycho dramas like the three faces of eve etc....How he did it with such class instead of just a slasher movie shows why he remains on the "A" list!

Nice. It kind of gives away nothing and everything simultaneously. One of my favorite shots in the whole movie is the scene at 1:17, when Norman leans in to look at the guestbook. The cinematography of this movie is just..... :) it sends shivers down my spine, trying to explain how much I love this movie.
