That doesn't explain how your reply wasn't bigoted- just because the remark was directed at you. When you present yourself as someone who is only willing to respond to English, it makes you appear dismissive of others. Fine if you're too lazy to translate, but you didn't say "please" or "I don't know Spanish"- you phrased it as a demand. I believe your insult wasn't intentional, but it isn't good to propagate the impression that English is the only language that will do.
