  • very powerful anti-war song, anti-military....can't decide whether it's more potent than "Some Mother's Son" or not, but both are just outstanding.

This album is just criminally underrated.

  • I love The Kinks!

  • Listen to this on headphones. Muuaaah. Kinks Fookin Rule!!

  • @femanodec Fuck off.

  • The drumming on this by Mick. Just really important and good stuff.

  • I love the line "Everything in its place, authority must be maintained for then we know exactly where we are" and "If he dies we'll send a medal to his wife" This is WWI in a nutshell.

  • @jamaral81 Because he plays different characters so he uses different voices. His voice is higher on Shangri La and Some Mother's Son. When he is playing the narrator he uses his regular voice. When he is playing Arthur as in Victoria, Yes Sir No Sir and certain others his voice is deeper.

I totally agree. I discovered this album in the early 80's. Loved it from day one. This song is tremendous. Beyond its meaning listen to Dave's great lead running in the background the whole song. It counters Ray's great vocal. Its a great late sixties rock song in addition to its great meaning as a centerpiece of this great work of art.

  • God Save The Kinks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Every song on this album is perfect! Truly one of the greatest of all time. If you can't hear that, you don't deserve ears!

  • Heard this album only for the first time recently... I nearly fell off the tram seat in amazement at this stunning work. Discovering the Kinks, what a gift.
