Free Speech at Risk at UNC Chapel Hill after Protests

This about says it all on the "bad" side of the Goode event. The protest outside had some good parts. The gal that organized that part of the event was nice. However, there were 6 arrests and 2 ...

I would agree with your statements in this video. Anarchist went too far with this attack on the UNC campus. They skewed the line of civil disobedient actions and violent thugs. I agree that as long as they weren't hurting anyone they have the right to interrupt and protest Tancredo. However, you are not protected against property damage. We all must be aware that mob rule whether through this display or democratic rule is contrary to the founders vision of a Republic and rule of law.

What specifically did he say on the videos that you would classify as hateful? Again, I went (not even really knowing the issue) to see if free speech was being suppressed. I can list out several thinks that would be hateful rhetoric from this guys rant: white supremacist, bigot, racist, homophobe, etc. Then saying "we must shut them down" in any way possible. I was filming, I spoke after him, and I know he and the 25 outside meant it. By the arrests, f.alarms, etc...so did everyone else.

Well, if the liberals don't protest, then the conservative goon squad will prosper. Free speech is real, and students have a right to protest against Tancredo's and Goode's hateful rhetoric. "Youth for Western Civilization?" All of their members are of Anglo descent. Why not just rename it what its members really embody--Anglo Youth for Minority Extermination?????

Syrennia. I was there. Anyone should have the right to protest...that is why I went. If you view all the clips, the only "hateful" rhetoric was coming out of the guy reading off his blackberry. After they cleared the people throwing fire alarms, setting off sirens and making so much noise that the speech couldn't take place, it went rather well. There were mics set up...CIVIL discourse was had. I sat in a good portion of the Goode discourse and there was no hateful rhetoric.

and "goon" squads. Come on...there are enough goons to go around. Ann Coulter, Al Frankin are a couple on opposing sides that come to mind.

And who cares if they are all of anglo decent? There are groups of all-Christians, all-Muslims, all-black, all-hispanic, etc.

As a matter of fact, if you watch the other video, there is an Hispanic speaking in FAVOR of Goode. AND, the crowd in favor was mixed in the room...and the crowd that didn't support the "methods" of the protesters was mixed too
