The Prettiest Star is a song written and performed by David Bowie. It is from the album Aladdin Sane in 1973.

Lyrics:

Cold fire, you've got everything but cold fire
You will be my rest and peace child
I moved up to take a place near you

So tired, it's the sky that makes you feel tired
It's a trick to make you see wide
It can all but break your heart in pieces

Staying back in your memory
Are the movies in the past
How you moved is all it takes
To sing a song of when I loved
The Prettiest Star

One day though it might as well be someday
You and I will rise up all the way
All because of what you are
The Prettiest Star

Staying back in your memory
Are the movies in the past
How you moved is all it takes
To sing a song of when I loved
The Prettiest Star

One day though it might as well be someday
You and I will rise up all the way
All because of what you are
The Prettiest Star

  • I've loved this song since I had the album way back and have hardly heard it since I stopped playing my vinyl; I added it to favourites along with some others of his I love recently and it kept playing in my head. Sad thing was, my precious horse died, she shouldn't have, someone made a mistake and this song just became her. Now I can't listen to it without crying; weird how it can be fab for 30 years and then heartbreaking for me to hear. Mind does strange things to you, doesn't it?

  • Makes me think of my girl.. She looks like a movie-star.. I blink fast and try to see in black and white , but she is far to colourful..

  • @08maricuca I also seen him on the Station to station tour ..Empire pool Wembley mid 70's.Don't know if you remember but at the beginning of the show there was a large screen with a huge eye ball on it ..then suddenly this eye ball is split open with a razor blade and blood seeps out..very gerish and slightly disturbing for a 15 year old girl ..seeing your post fetched the memory flooding back

  • @algae1128 He is a great performer, I was lucky to see him twice in my youth,

Diamond Dogs tour and Station to Station stage. He was fantastic......

  • Always loved this song. I can hear the divine influence of Mick Ronson all over it, and his guitar reaches out and grabs me by the hand. His sound is that distinctive. I love DB, but Ronno was also out-of-this-world talented, and he never got near the recognition he deserved. RIP Mick. We miss you.

  • It's also the song Lola dances to in the film Kinky Boots; the same film has a funeral scene with Nina Simone's version of Wild Is The Wind on.

  • Good collection of pics. I've seen so many over the last 38 years and here were some I've never seen before. Bowie is the ultimate performer.

  • love the second pic
