MSX - Batman (1987)

A game for the MSX-1 by Ocean. What always fascinated me about this game and a few others by Ocean is that, despite the mono color, they had very detailed graphics. Guess that was the compromise to make, given the limited hardware of the MSX-1 system.

This game is about roaming around in the batcave and Bruce's mansion in order to find parts of the batmobile. Somehow, finishing the batmobile will rescue Robin; or at least, that is the premise of this game. I am not making it up.

What all those wacky monsters are doing there is also unclear. Obviously, this is a game that predates the big Batman franchise, or they would have minded the plot a little better. On the other hand, look what happened to E.T. on the Atari 2600.

This game was very good. Played it from a tape.... good old days...

I ran it under an emulator, but as a disk image file from a casette tape. It is funny; the emulator literally analyses a screeching sound file that is playing, just as if it were an original data tape.
