One World One Ocean presents, in association with Liquid Pictures 3D -- Mission Aquarius -- a project of Aquarius Reef Base. Join the expedition at http://oneworldoneocean.org/aquarius --
This is last scheduled mission to Aquarius Reef Base, the world's last remaining underwater science lab. Join the expedition at http://oneworldoneocean.org/aquarius --
On July 16 One World One Ocean will join Dr. Sylvia Earle, National Geographic Explorer-in-Residence, D.J Roller's Liquid Pictures 3D, and a team of aquanauts for a 6-day expedition to a "research only" zone in Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary, home to Aquarius, the last remaining underwater lab in the world. We will bring you live interviews and in-depth coverage.
Since 1993, America's "inner space station" has helped us understand the disappearance of coral reefs, train NASA astronauts for space and research sea sponges, the source of two cancer drugs. The discoveries made at Aquarius have opened our eyes to how little we really know about the vast complexity of the ocean. It is one of the planet's most important brain trusts, and it is about to be closed.
IMAX, RED, GoPro and DSLR cameras were used to capture the beauty of this special place.

This proves that the world needs more underwater labs and the US government should have been providing more support to Aquarius. All ocean conservationists and marine scientists should join the fight for more marine science funding like this.
I've embedded the video on my wordpress blog: oceanicexplorer

I'm sorry but governments don't understand the need for scientific advancement unless it strikes them in the face. You need to get the people involved in a big way.
Give us information, something to ooh and aaaw over. Something that stirs our emotions, good and bad. Let us know what is going on down there. How can we help when it seems that everything you do is hidden?
Where is your blog, your facebook or twitter account? Are there more videos on You Tube or Vimeo that we can identify with?

Thanks for your comment, Greypoet2. Please visit the link in the description for this video to learn about the additional content we will be creating for this upcoming expedition. Aquarius also streams live during missions and the Aquarius Reef Base website has a wealth of information about their history, research and outreach. You can also follow Aquarius Reef Base on Twitter and Facebook. More videos will be coming soon an we hope you will watch and share. Thanks!

If we lose our ability to explore and understand our world, we are doomed as a species.

Aquarius primarily studies the role of oceanic acidification in coral reef decline. This is important because all edible species of fish rely on coral reefs for refuge and reproduction, and one in four people globally get all of the protein in their diet from fish. Most of that demographic consists of poor fishermen, rural peasants and factory workers in nations we outsource to.

Please read this article in the Huffington Post: The Closure Of Aquarius Reef Base And America's Scientific Ambitions - I can't add urls into this reply - but this will give you additional info. Also you can just go to Aquarius website to see the achievements the base has accomplished over 20 years.
