Pretty cool man thinking about building one kind of like it only i wouldn't use the water to shoot stuff I would just use bottle rockets and crap, thanks for giving me an idea though.

PVC pipe: $40
Pack of water bottles: $30
Tennis Ball: $10
Getting to launch tennis balls at that one cat that always craps in your yard: Priceless.

@BobNO227 i think its only there for easy loading access

Could you overload the bottle with air and make it explode to send the projectile flying?

NICE!

The water is necessary for better propulsion. Since Water does not compress, the air inside the bottle is what really provides the thrust, but the water provides a more solid thing to push against, air pushing on water, vs. air pushing on air. For more info on how and why it works I suggest seeing the Mythbuusters Water powered jet pack episode on Youtube. I might post a Tutorial on how to make your own cannon in the future.

When the desired air pressure is achieved, the U bolt is pulled out with a rope/lanyard, the bottle pops off the stopper and moves forward very quickly, sending anything in front of it (normally I use a tennis ball) out of the barrel and down range.

For the launching, there is no pressure that the pipe needs to withstand, the 120 PSI is contained in a soda bottle, witch is filled 2/3 full of water and placed on a rubber stopper in the end of the barrel. A U shaped bolt is then fed through the 2 holes in the top of the pipe and around the end of the soda bottle. This makes a pressure seal, so that when the air compressor valve is opened, the empty space in the bottle is filled with compressed air.

The Music is the loading music from Battlefield 1942 (which is an awesome game), although the music is similar to BF 2142.
To answer the question about the PVC pipe, I cut the 3 pipe with a jigsaw after drilling holes for the corners. It helps to draw the shape of the cut and measure out everything as I did. For the ends I used a hack saw. Thanks for all the great comments!
