The music is from Battlefield 1942 (EA Games) and does not belong to me.
The barrel is made of 3 inch PVC pipe, the wheels are from a bike trailer, and most of the rest of it is wood. It is powered similarly to a water bottle rocket launcher. Water is poured into the bottle; the bottle is placed onto the cork, insert the U pin to keep form launching prematurely, then fill with air (60-120 psi) pull the cord when ready, and watch whatever you put in the barrel fly. Both the idea and design are mine.

  • The water is necessary for better propulsion. Since Water does not compress, the air inside the bottle is what really provides the thrust, but the water provides a more solid thing to push against, air pushing on water, vs. air pushing on air. For more info on how and why it works I suggest seeing the Mythbuusters Water powered jet pack episode on Youtube. I might post a Tutorial on how to make your own cannon in the future.

  • When the desired air pressure is achieved, the U bolt is pulled out with a rope/lanyard, the bottle pops off the stopper and moves forward very quickly, sending anything in front of it (normally I use a tennis ball) out of the barrel and down range.

  • For the launching, there is no pressure that the pipe needs to withstand, the 120 PSI is contained in a soda bottle, witch is filled 2/3 full of water and placed on a rubber stopper in the end of the barrel. A U shaped bolt is then fed through the 2 holes in the top of the pipe and around the end of the soda bottle. This makes a pressure seal, so that when the air compressor valve is opened, the empty space in the bottle is filled with compressed air.

  • The Music is the loading music from Battlefield 1942 (which is an awesome game), although the music is similar to BF 2142.

To answer the question about the PVC pipe, I cut the 3 pipe with a jigsaw after drilling holes for the corners. It helps to draw the shape of the cut and measure out everything as I did. For the ends I used a hack saw. Thanks for all the great comments!

  • give us a tutorial

  • Pretty cool man thinking about building one kind of like it only i wouldn't use the water to shoot stuff I would just use bottle rockets and crap, thanks for giving me an idea though.

  • okay.. that is impressive.

  • i would like to make one of these please explain to me how the mechanism works

  • Battlefield 1942 theme awesome

  • when i make this i put this to my window next to my neighbor :D

  • PVC pipe: $40

    Pack of water bottles: $30

    Tennis Ball: $10

Getting to launch tennis balls at that one cat that always craps in your yard: Priceless.

  • @BobNO227 i think its only there for easy loading access

  • Could you overload the bottle with air and make it explode to send the projectile flying?

  • NICE!
