After I noticed a pretty suspicious lack of Light Phaser videos, I decided to put some up before retiring from the SMS (temporarily). A so-so light phaser game based on the iconic and very manly action hero, John J. Rambo, which is based on the film of the same name in which the very manly Sylvester Stallone starred in. Had it not been for all its male testosterone and a healing item which is restored each level, I would consider this a rather poor LP game as it seems to lack any real planning. The game is played similarly to titles like Operation Wolf, except there's almost zero time between when an enemy appears and bewteen the time you have to use your gun to kill enemies without getting shot first, and grenades kill everyone including innocent bystanders (though this is at least realistic), and some enemies don't go down in one hit like they should, leading me to believe that the hit detection is also marginally off. There are some enemies who shoot you even if you shoot them EXACTLY as they show up and if you've memorized every level, and I just find that to be poor.

The general plot is similar to the movie: the main plot centers on the former Vietnam-era Green Beret, John J. Rambo, who goes back to duty "one last time" to rescue his friend and former superior, Colonel Trautman, who was captured during a covert operation in Soviet Union-controlled Afghanistan. The C.I.A. was ready to leave him behind because they were afraid it would cause an international incident, but since you're tough-as-nails Rambo, you don't care. The game features good audio/visuals. This is a sample recorded off of Sega hardware (Power Base Converter on a CDX system). Enjoy.

  • Again I easily fall for these type of games. I may find some appeal to this game but I have a feeling there are simply better Lighr Phaser games on the SMS than this!

  • looks not bad :-)
