The 'UK's Premier Steam Event' once again took place over Friday 23rd until Sunday 25th September 2011, the Severn Valley Railway's 'Autumn Steam Gala', featuring the usual 60hrs continuous operation from Friday morning until Sunday evening.

The original plan was to bring in the newly restored from Barry Scrapyard condition number 6023 'King Edward II' from its homebase at Didcot GWS, however sadly the locomotive developed a fault on its visit to the Mid Norfolk Railway and so was replaced by sister engine 6024 'King Edward I'. Another GWR express locomotive that didn't turn up was 5029 'Nunney Castle', being substituted by the West Somerset's 'Large Prairie' number 4160. A popular guest was Caledonian Railway number 828, visiting from the Strathspey Railway in Scotland, this the locomotive's first visit south of the border in preservation. The end of the summer long loan from the Mid Hants Railway of '9F' number 92212 was this event and visiting for just a few days was new build 60163 'Tornado'. After a lengthy overhaul that has seen the engine out of traffic since 1994, 2857 made its gala debut since returning to traffic back in July. The full line up was --

| Caledonian Railway 0-6-0 '812' class number 828
| GWR 2-8-0 28xx 'Heavy Freight' class number 2857
| BR(W) 2-6-2T 5101 'Large Prairie Tank' class number 4160
| GWR 2-6-2T 45xx 'Small Prairie Tank' class number 4566
| GWR 4-6-0 60xx 'King' class number 6024 'King Edward I'
| GWR 4-6-0 78xx 'Manor' class number 7812 'Erlestoke Manor'
| LMS 2-6-0 5MT 'Stainer Mogul' class number 42968
| BR(M) 2-6-0 4MT 'Ivatt Mogul' class number 43106 (aka 'The Flying Pig')
| BR(M) 2-6-0 2MT 'Mickey' class number 46443
| New Build Peppercorn 4-6-2 'A1' class number 60163 'Tornado'
| BR 2-10-0 Standard Class 9 ('9F') number 92212

4566 was originally spare but covered for 43106 on most of the Pig's diagram as it was having problems. Numbers 4566, 42968, 46443 & 43106 do not feature in this video but can be found in others of mine.

Shots include the Goods train, with a run up Eardington Bank, and 6024 on the 'Cornish Riviera'.

  • @JBTEvans So do i. Went there for my birthday and spent the whole trip stood up with my head out the window! Its different when you have a window to peer out of!

  • @5786Thomas personally I prefer the WSR to be stood up as they have mostly open plan mark 1 TSOs, so there is more room to stand and generally more seats compared to LMS/GWR corridor stock.

  • @JBTEvans A bit like when I went to the WSR's gala a few years back. We were stood up for the whole journey.

  • @jaannetts16 cheers mate, glad you enjoyed it
