One More Parade
1964: "All the News that's Fit to Sing"

Hup, two, three, four, marching down the street.
Rolling of the drums and the tramping of the feet.
The general salutes while the mothers wave and weep.
Here comes the big parade, don't be afraid,
Price is paid, one more parade.

cho: So young, so strong, so ready for the war, So willing to go and die on a foreign shore. All march together, everybody looks the same So there is no one you can blame, don't be ashamed Light the flame, one more parade.

Listen for the sound and listen for the noise
Listen for the thunder of the marching boys
A few years ago their guns were only toys
Here comes the big parade, don't be afraid
The price is paid, one more parade.

Medals on their coats and guns in their hands
All trained to kill as they're trained to stand
Ten thousand ears need only one command
Here comes the big parade, don't be afraid
The price is paid, one more parade.

Cold, hard stares on faces so proud
Kisses from the girls and cheers from the crowd
And the widows from the last war crying through their shroud
Here comes the big parade, don't be afraid
The price is paid, don't be ashamed, war's a game
The world in flames- so start the parade.

  • Reminds me of May 1991. I was living in DC, and there was a huge post-Desert-Storm wargasm. People were claiming that the demon of Vietnam had finally been exorcised, and American troops could finally hold their heads up high again. One guy in my office (at the American Red Cross, ironically), was prancing around whistling Civil War ditties. Wish I had known this song then; I would have belted it out.

  • Phil Ochs was well documented as struggling with clinical depression, and had Bi-Polar disorder, which ran in his famiy, and his mental health went through a noted decline in his final years. Just because he was outspoken it doesn't really lend itself to conspiracy theories.

  • In the video response I submitted, pay particular attention to two men standing behing two Dallas Police Officers ( 1 minute 31 seconds) one of the men is Phil Ochs legendary folk singer who was sent to Dallas as an observer. There is another You Tube video called TEXAS SCHOOL BOOK DEPOSITORY that will support this film. Phil Ochs was later found dead of an apparent hanging suicide. I wonder.....
