@marmaladekamikaze Monolith on Phobos, hmm...? Oblong engineered stone about 10 miles tall,.. just randomly" planted on a moon orbiting the planet called mars, no we should chase asteroids Zzzz so what could you do with the tail of an asteroid,.. and what about the debris that usually travels in tandem with any moving objects in space. Anyways moonbases are the only viable static position that could be productive. ie we have a captured satellite right there. We need to put Men on the moon.

Mars has nothing for us, Asteroid 1986 DA does however, and we should go there to make space travel profitable.

NASA is hell bent on using Shuttle parts no matter how many times its re-made from Constellation, Liberty, Jupiter One, to the Senate Launch System SLS. The point is they want the money transferred to tax payer, to government program contractors, to senator and congressmen campaign funds. They could car less about progress or safety or SRB's would not be a consideration.

NASA needs to build Jupiter's and the SLS

@usnsquirrel No...he cancelled it. Congress never voted on it. Your numbers are for the program as a whole which includes orion, ares v, ares I, mobile launch platform, j2x engine testing for second stage, etc.

@wavertree558 I hope you're wrong....but I can't argue your point.

Is that Meg Griffin?

You need to keep a launch vehicle program, we must not go backwards.

cmon lets just friggin start a space colony already, il never get to live on mars... :(
Spacevidcast forgot the other Shuttle derived launcher, the side mount throw away launcher (not Shuttle-c)
ralpher05 2 years ago
@ralpher05 No, didn't forget. The article on NSF mentioned that the shuttle derived sidemount option (NS-C) was all but ruled out. You'll note the video is quite specific with the Jupiter-241 Stretched Heavy. That's the vehicle that is rumored to be the next gen shuttle replacement. All rumors though, we won't know for sure until an official announcement is made.

Obama should dump a few more billion into the space industry so nasa can get this important stuff done.
If hes giving away trillions in stimulus he can atleast do something meaningful with a few meazly billion.

One could also add to that argument and say that by creating a new industry in space we would be creating jobs and expanding our own economy. This could in turn do more good than the entire bailout as well as help humanity in ways we can't even imagine right now. So more money here really has little down side, IMO.
