@ssaftler Why leave the gun? So the police can deduce how they ended up dead and riddled with bullets:

@imblessedso They use guns that aren't traceable to them and they don't leave the scene with them in their possession. The gun being in their possession would link them to the killing through ballistics.

Why not get rid of the gun, rather than leave something around that has a history that one can attempt to trace.
