This is an avian behavior called 'mantling', it is when a bird of prey tries to hide what exactly it has caught, in this case likely a rodent. It is to keep other animals from trying to steal its meal. Despite how it may appear, this owl isn't injured or grounded, only saying, "Mine! MINE! ALL MINE!"
