Romans 9 is such an alleged stronghold of truth for Calvinists.
Here in the Quick Answers to Calvinists Format Paul's quote that "God has mercy on whomever He wills" and that it is not therefore "of him who wills, nor of him who runs, but of God who shows mercy" is explained.
Romans 9:15-16
The 3 contexts of this quote are shown to point to a meaning opposite to the way Calvinists read this.
1. The preceding verse points to it being about God's righteousness; Calvinists reading points to God being capricious and whimsical i.e. unrighteous.
2. Paul's quote is about something said TO MOSES: without that appreciation the quote means the opposite.
3. The rest of Scripture points to a righteous method:
"With the merciful You will show Yourself merciful"
2 Samuel 22:26

  • @gracetruthguy you really are a heretic !! 2 samuel has nothing to do with salvation !!! only a pridefull man like yourself would believe that GODowes yhou anything that its not of grace but of human works in this case mercy you are deluded in your thinking your pride has blinded you into thinking you are good if to recieve its an act of the wiil than its not of man it plainly says i am done with you for sure you are a heretic!!!

  • Hi patriotsfan1379,

I know and understand what you believe

It's just that I don't read it in the bible

If you care to quote a passage that says that stuff, fine. Please do

    I've yet to read one

You appear not to understand and know what I believe and have boxed me into some allusion

    As I said before:

I challenge you to point to anyone who teaches Paul's teaching of Conditional predestination as in Romans 8

But then, you appear not to have seen that video.

    Well, have you?

  • @gracetruthguy this is truly ridiculous line of thinking its humanist and you keep taking 2samuel 22;26 out of context salvation its by grace ALL of GOD not because HE sees someone being mercyfull thats its delusional you just think you are good don't you? you think you deserve mercy based on any action of mercy that you have or are doing hahahahahahahahah thats its not the biblical view of salvation grace means unmerited favor now what part of that you don't understand?

  • Hi patriotsfan1379,

You omit in your points the fact that the decision and act of God to empower "to them He gave the right to become children of God" occurs AFTER and as a direct consequence of "as many as received Him"

    John 1:12

The Augustinian belief you aspire to suggests this individual decision (by God) happened before the world begun.

    God's Word says explicitly

"With the merciful You will show Yourself merciful" 2 Samuel 22:26

But you choose to believe no one can

  • @gracetruthguy you are right it is TRAGIC how people like you elightened humanist take 1 verse out of cotext and make people believe that it is the only meaning in the ch; the ch; has 3 ideas even 4 "1 HIM being the word" 2 ""HE was rejected or recieved "" ""3 HE is the light [knowledge]"" "" 4 GODS will its the deciding factor in a person being born again [salvation ] if you cant keep up with the context you should stay out of teaching you reasoning is weak and not godly

  • Hi patriotsfan1379,

When you read words that set the scene for something - "the Word . . . was the true Light which gives light to every man coming into the world" John 1:1-9 - and then, a few sentences later, you see something added to focus on a particular area within the overall scene - "He came to His own" John 1:11 - then, you do not expect someone to say "See, that later focus is the context!"

Unless, sadly. what you're naturally reading is against what you want to believe. Tragic!

  • @gracetruthguy what YOU don't don't understand that in the CONTEXT of what its being talked about since"" HE came to his own but they did not recieved HIM but to those who recieved HIM""" than """EVERY"""does not mean generally but collectively some were given the light while others were not point made

  • Hi patriotsfan1379,

    You said:

[the gift being offered its knowledge [i.e.light] but ONLY TO THOSE WHO WOULD be born]

    (MY EMPHASIS)

    Really?

    John 1:9

"the true Light which gives light to every man coming into the world"

Tell us, what do you not understand about "TO EVERY MAN"?

  • @gracetruthguy wow !!! and I really mean wow!!! and you have the audacity to call out """CONTEXT""""no way the gift being offered its knowledge [i.e.light] but only to those who would be born '''NOT OF THE WIILL OF MAN BUT OF THE WILL OF GOD'''!!!! the deaf and the blind get saved through GODS gift of faith being born of the spirit whom guides them and teches them all things but they must be born again JESUS said unles a man is born again he cannot see let alone enter the kingdom

  • Hi patriotsfan1379, Yes, receiving is an act of the will. Free will is evident in the bible e.g. Psalm 119:108 "Accept, I pray, the freewill offerings of my mouth, O LORD" Nope the gift being offered is not being born again What is offered as per John 1:9 is the light (context) You know, That which is offered to EVERY MAN "He is the light that gives light to EVERY man who comes into the world" John 1:9 Tell me How do you think the man born deaf and blind gets to be saved?
