Did you have any problems getting the gear sector back on the rod? I'm in the process of doing the same repair ... I think I'll have to hammer in back on the rod :(

On mine, the gear sector is fan shaped. It didn't go on the rod. Then the gear on the steering shaft assembly (which is what I'm thinking you're saying you'll have to hammer on) is all one piece. So no, I didn't have to hammer it on the rod. Hope this helps!
