I have heard that chins bark for attention or when they are lonely. I know one owner that leaves his tv at night and mutes it before going to bed so that his chin wont be lonely...these creatures are very social and should always be bought in pairs

this chinchilla is very frightened, when it's barking like that, it tries to warn other chinchillas.

2.)

it's cage is too small and it has to have some company (a second chinchilla)

@Antaresfy Really? Because I've seen him when he's scared, and his noise and body position is definitely different than this little video. I would say he's more alarmed than frightened.

Him and his buddy have since then been upgraded to a much larger cage! (:

I don't think it's a tired sound. He only makes that noise at night, when he's awake. My guess is that he hears something, but doesn't know what it is. Or he wants attention- but he shakes his cage when he wants that lol.

They do that when they want attention, too. That is if your chin is a vocal one. Glad you got a bigger cage :) Cute chin.
