I wrote this song a couple of months ago for my darling wife, who puts up with me and loves me in spite of all my faults. It is one of my entries in the UK. Songwriting Contest 2008. It won a Commended Entry Award. The lyrics are:

1. I sit here watching you sleep,
And I see how beautiful you are,
My love for you is so strong,
And I've known it from the very start.

2. Every time I hold you in my arms,
I remember why I love you so,
And I realise just why I,
Can never, ever let you go.

m/c No need to say that you love me,
I know it's not your style,
No need to say that you want me,
I see it in your smile.

3. Instrumental verse.

m/c No need to say that you love me,
I know it's not your style,
No need to say that you want me,
I see it in your smile.

Though we may quarrel at times,
It doesn't change the way I feel,
Instead I love you more and more,
And that's something I cannot conceal.

m/c No need to say that you love me,
I know it's not your style,
No need to say that you want me,
I see it in your smile.

  • I think all your songs are very similar. Maybe mix it up and have a really catchy tune. This is good as well though! Just like the others! :D

  • You have only heard a few of them. I will be putting some more up-tempo ones on in the near future, hopefully, including an up-tempo version of this one.

  • This is like a lost gem from Roy Orbison's last album (the one with Jeff Lynne as producer), or from the Wilbury's. Nice job!

  • Really? I wasn't sure about this one. I wrote it during the month when I was recording and truthfully, I only included it for the sake of my nearest and dearest, for whom it was written.

  • It reminds me somewhat of Roy Orbison's sound, too. Lovely melody & nice clear trumpet. Quite nice.

  • good stuff

  • Roses always remind me of my late grandmother. With only a slight change of lyrics, you could aim this song towards fond memories of grandmothers, which most people have. With the Pete Skellern'esque

overtones and trumpet playing almost the Last Post, it invokes a nostalgic feel which is very appealing. Good luck.

  • Actually more Wilburys than Roy...Roy was always heartbroken, or suffering by himself because he couldn't get up the nerve to ask a girl out - so your tune fits but these lyrics are way too content for him. :-) But imagine splashing 12-string guitars, timpani accents, big piano bass, a little more uptempo - the whole Jeff Lynne 80s sound.

  • Cool; love the trumpet.

  • This is great; I love the poignant lyrics.
