My 1993 rx7 has a fully operational preturbo water injection system installed! I have to install an inline fuse for the solenoid but it's amazing!

I'm running 15 psi until I install my 3 bar sensor.

  • So, you're relying on turbo boost pressure alone to feed the water to the nozzle? No high pressure pump? If so, this isn't going to work. You have the exact same pressure pushing against the spray nozzle as you do feeding it. The system will do, nothing.

You need to pump the fluid in order to overcome the intake pressure.

  • @Bread996 it does work. im pumping it into the pre turbo where the pressure will be atmostpheric at most. Otherwise, it will be a vacuum. put your hand in front of an intake at idle, it will be sucking air in. at WOT it will be atmosphere. the turbo kicks out 15 psi more than the atmosphere pressure. There is a net difference. If i was injecting it post turbo, you would be correct. that uses a pump

  • @emerciv Atomized fluids do not like to make turns. You have poorly atomized fluid, which has to travel through the turbo, intercooler, and multiple tubing bends around 7' in total length. In fuel systems, port fuel injection burns more completely than a TBI, only a 12" difference at best. You're mostly just washing your intercooler :)

To do this right you want a high pressure nozzle, as close to the combustion chamber as possible. This is an example of what NOT to do.

  • @Bread996 ill agree with the first statement.:-) This is an example of a different method to inject water. larger water droplets dont effect the system as much as atomized fuels would. its the combustion chamber temperatures i was focused on. Thats what most people use water for on rotaries. I still agree that atomized would give ultimately better benefit. I just wanted to reduce knock. and it has considerably.

  • Thinking about doing this same thing... but looks a bit messy with all the hoses lol... what did you do drill into the turbo piping to get the water tank to pressurize?

  • @Tj1056 i had a fitting welded onto the turbo housing. it was then tapped for the right size. and i put brass fittings into it.

  • @unijabnx2000 i really liked the idea of no other pump sound. And the idea of less mechanical components typically means less failure points.

  • @dwnrety1 Not universal. custom made for the rx7. I didnt put it in the tank because the system would have delay or excess water in the line if the tank was further away. It works off turbo boost so the further the air has to move, the more it has to pressurize to get the same results.

a guy on rx7club.com dudemaaansownrx7 is his screen name. cool guy who set this up.

  • Rrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! I hate cali's smog relation bs! (: ( I wish we can keep our cars modded without having to put oem parts back on just for 1 test every 2 years!

  • hey buddy, can U tell me where can I purchase that boost sensor that you have. The one you said it acts like a trigger for the system to come on as soon as it senses XX amount of psi.

  • use a pump ur injecting at 10psi of presure not very efficient the new pumps use 250psi ur setup is way to low of presure just tring to help

  • im saving for a nissan 300 zx and thinking of getting water injection

can you turn it on and off as you want or is it on constant?

  • what is water injection good for?
