and what did they buy new ones.

Top two vehicles sold from this program; Chevrolet Silverado and Ford F-150.

No, you cannot make a profit off of the government. You can help to rip off taxpayers.

If I had money and the amibition, I would buy some crappy old cars, trade them in for a fewer car (with a cash investment), then sell them for regular price - deprecitation months later.
If you could do the math right, you'd make a profit off of the government :-)

If they want to help the environment, there are a ton of better plans. (Not that a plan has to be all that good to be better than the one they came up with).
Give somebody that buys a new car a tax credit. If you buy a $30,000 car you get to claim a deduction for ten or fifteen thousand dollars. You trade your 10 mpg Bronco for a used 18 mpg Explorer, you get maybe a $4000 tax deduction. Don't destroy something to replace it with something new, just because its more efficient. That's stupid!

Save the clunkers!

lmao it's hilarious how keynesians actually think that taking money from the rich to give to the poor so that they can buy something from the rich stimulates the economy lmao i've been studying classical/ austrian economics for only a few months and can see the obvious fallacies in their theories.

I think we should rename it the crushed clunker fallacy.
Doing well HTWW. Cash for clunkers shows the broken window fallacy.

Cash for Clunkers is a horrible idea. It's $3 billion of our tax dollars down the toilet. Poor working people and students need those so-called "clunkers" that are being destroyed. It's wasteful and bad for the environment.
That was a good analogy about the FDR cotton destruction. FDR prolonged the Depression.
