Sun Prairie High School Jazz Band gets a big surprise!

Sun Prairie High School Jazz Band Director Steve Sveum directs the Sun Prairie High School Jazz Band's attention to the video screen at the front of the band room for a piece of music he wants them to learn -- but the screen instead reveals the band has been selected for Jazz at Lincoln Center's 2011 high school jazz competition in New York City! The band's enthusiastic reaction follows, along with some commentary from band members and Sveum.

Watching this video brought me right back to 2004 when we found out we had been selected as a finalist... it gave me goosebumps, butterflies and tears!

To this day, playing in Avery Fisher Hall alongside some of my best friends and the BEST director is among my proudest moments. Mr. Sveum, you are incredible! What a blessing it was to learn, perform and experience music at Sun Prairie.
