Panama Red by the New Riders of the Purple Sage

John "Marmaduke" Dawson, a singer-songwriter who co-founded the psychedelic country-rock band the New Riders of the Purple Sage with the Grateful Dead's Jerry Garcia, died Wednesday in Mexico after a long bout with stomach cancer, the band announced. He was 64. Here is a clip of Dawson performing "Panama Red" at the 2002 High Times Doobie Awards at B.B. King's in New York City.

@danotunes Yes, I have the entire last show of Marmaduke and the band, although he had a few beers before the show, so the harmonies are a little off in places. They did a version of Lonesome LA Cowboy that I loved, and, of course, Buddy is peerless on the pedal steel.

the steel guitar player is or was one of the few guitar maestros ever he was not good he like clapton gallagher page and possibly slash are some of the greatest channellers ever except for hendrix x
