Barbara Schneider Foundation initiated the creation of the Crisis Intervention Team program with the Minneapolis Police Department to teach police who are dispatched to 911 mental health crisis calls how to appropriately and effectively de-escalate the crisis and transport the person in crisis to the hospital for care. Working with partners in law enforcement, courts, corrections, mental health, social service, health care and education systems, Barbara Schneider Foundation is teaching de-escalation skills, strengthening criminal justice/mental health/community collaborations, and improving safety for responders and those with a mental illness.
