In PCI Data Storage Dos and Donts, the PCI council recommends as little storage as possible unless you have a legitimate business need. The logs that contain the CC data may also have important information about transactions that a business may need as part of an archive search, or for troubleshooting an application. These logs could certainly scale to the hundreds of terabytes.
