Step by step instructions on how to replace the water pump and thermostat on a Jeep 4.7 liter engine. This one had a major failure of the water pump bearing and was making lots of noise. The pulley was crooked and the belt was going to fall off soon. If you like this video at all, please subscribe. More firearm and automotive how-to videos coming soon. • @roadragecustumes yes 4.0 and do I need a special tool to remove the cooling fan?

  • @ElBEBE4262 Yes. Get a fan clutch wrench set from your local parts store or watch my Chevy 2500 HD water pump video for a short cut with an air chisel.

  • So how different from a 1999 jeep grand cheroke

  • @ElBEBE4262 4.0L ?

  • Thanks for the vid its going to help me change my pump. How did you get the fan off?? another opinion would be helpful

  • @deankruse31 This one didn't have a belt-driven fan. I sometimes use a long chisel to bump the fan clutch nut loose, but you can get fan clutch wrenches at some parts stores with the loaner tool program.

  • so how different in a 1997? my son is coming over tomorrow and I told him there are so many people on you tube....thanks

  • Great video! Apparently these pumps like to go out around 100k? My 2004 WJ 4.7L's pump just started leaking with 98k on the clock. Much easier to replace than some of the other ones I've done in the past. :)

  • I had this same problem in a 2006 cherokee. I changed the water pump and thermostat just the same way you did, but it is still overheating. The fan is kicking on. Do you have any suggestions?

  • Damm, I wondered what that screw was at the end of the top hose. LOL. Could have saved me a lot of worry. Knowledge is power! Thanks for the video, I need to go out and bleed my engine of air.

  • great now to get my wife to trust me to do it! doesnt sound good when i say i learned how on youtube!

  • Great video! What are all the torque specs when installing, or where can they be found? Thanks
