  • Fantastic pics! That was so fun to watch because we never seem to be in Duluth while the ships are going through anymore. I especially liked the evening pictures because we always hit Duluth during the daytime hours so I've never gotten to see it with everything all lit up!

  • @landseka The easiest way to tell a "laker" from a "salty" is by looking at the shape of their bow. Lake freighters, for the most part, tend to have straight, blunted bows. Ocean freighters have sharp, sort of knife like, bows that are angled.

    Hope that helps a bit. :)

  • AWSOME MEMORIES..I was a welder at the american ship building co. I helped build the mesabi miner and james r barker shown here...they where built in the late 70,s.
