And just like good liberals, her Oscar came for portraying a stereotypical idea of a black woman in the South, in a movie that was grossly inaccurate concerning the Civil War. And for years blacks were still relegated to playing criminals, drug-addicts, bafoons, clowns, sexless sidekicks, oversexed non-committing players etc. YA Hollywood you're sooo understanding and open-minded. Doctors brought awareness to AIDS. The gay community also played a large part in bringing awareness. Hollywood only started wearing those chipping in in the early 90s, when millions had already died.
