Tony Clarke: Born Ralph Thomas Williams was an American soul singer-songwriter born 1944 in New York City and raised in Detroit.
Clarke died in 1970, too late to see his career see a resurgence in the 1970s on the UK northern soul scene. The intense devotion was given to an obscure Chess single, "Landslide", released in 1967, and a song recorded later in Detroit on MS called "(They call me) a wrong man".
Clarke also had a minor role in the Sidney Poitier film 'They Call Me MISTER TIBBS!' in 1970.

@schild19771 hi yes it was shot during the week and not many whent because the media were tryting hard to cash in on the scene ay that time, and yes it was 1979 we were all talking about it on thr follling saturday,great memories of vernon and his so called rival sandy great times

Are you guys sure about the time period. I'm thinking before then (the style of dress suggests around 75).
I didn't start going till 76 and these guys were definitely before me.
Could be wrong. Memory can play tricks on you.

One of only two bits of genuine casino footage... Tony palmer's 77 TV doc and this one from.... dunno... 79/80/81..? Class and , it would apear, impossible to replicate. Like trying to make a chippendale furniture out of plastic !

I remember the story behind this Casino footage. It was taken around 1979 and featured many of the regulars at the time: Vernon, Julie Bev etc... I seem to remember that it wasn't actually taken on a Satuday night and actually a bit staged as someone has said. I had stopped going by the time the film was taken but still hand my finger on the pulse. Anyone got any other versions of the story.
