I come from Africa and such crusades are very successful over there simply because most people have so little that they will turn to whatever promise of hope they hear. Some of the poorest countries in Africa have an estimated Atheist percentage of 0%. So what led to what? Did they become poor because they failed to harvest and choose to kneel instead? Unlikely. Did they find themselves so desperate that they turned to deities? More likely.
