the circus is the drama unfolding at the end of their relationship.

so shes saying if this carries on

your just gonna be left on the mantlepiece

i.e left on the side, alone.

i think shes talking about a break up,

i've heard her talk about it in interviews.

its like when they break up they still seems to get back together,

even though they argue, which she talks about in the rest of the song.
