Actually he was musing about a psychic flood, not global warming. He was exploring what it would be like if psychic energy rose like the AM radio signals that bounce through the atmosphere at night and allowed everyone to see everyone else for what we really are. It's a less obvious but I think far more interesting meaning.

Gabriel himself has noted what the song was actually about, and it has nothing to do with climate change. He had a dream about people being telepathic and the mental flood that would come with that ability. Quote - "I was referring to a mental flood... a release, a wash over the mind."

I'm embarrassed by your explanation now and the amount of likes. Points for trying though, it's not easy to guess what a song like this means. I had no clue either.
