The footage you are viewing here was NEVER aired on TV. Prolific TV archivist Ray Glasser provided this clip of the All In the Family cast performing this re-written version of "Those Were the Days" before the taping of an episode in 1975. This "skit" was done in response to the FCC's then-new "Family Viewing Hour" regulations, which forced shows of a more mature nature to be aired at 9PM or later. As a result, AITF had to relocate to from Saturdays at 8PM to Mondays at 9PM that year.

Ray has the full clip posted on one of his various channels (that begin with the 'videoholic' prefix), but I edited down the footage to incorporate it into an opening sequence.

  • I couldn't understand the lyrics from the part where they all sang and after the "robert can propose to bill" and before "we can show my pregnancy". Does anyone know those lyrics.

    This is way too funny.

  • I'm pretty sure it's, "We can often say prune juice and tush and potty out loud!".

  • How did you find this? It's incredible.

  • @ClarenceFisher Yeah! I don't think I've ever seen any intro 2 "All in the Family" like this b4. Maybe something very rare that we've all never seen and never made it in2 1 of the 1975 episodes.

  • You wouldn't be able to find this anywhere else because I created this edit. Read the description for more info.

  • lol this is hilarious. It's amazing how much TV in general has regressed from the days when shows like this were the most popular to now, where....I don't even know what is a popular sitcom today. All I know is that any time I see a commercial for something on CBS or NBC or some god awful new Tyler Perry horseshit, I'm amazed at how bad it all looks. They're all too afraid to slightly offend some interest group.

  • All in the family is still the best TV comedy. I'am happy because portuguese tv memory is putting it now.

  • LMAO!

  • I wonder if this later ended up on "The Norman Lear Collection"? Sony's gotta have that in their archive!

  • Say wha..?

  • MY REPLAY BUTTON IS STUCK ON THIS!!!!!

  • gloria looks like a dork with them glasses...lol
