Malmi Church by Reima and Raili Pietilä.
The first Christmas performed live by Malmi Choir.

The church was conceived in 1967. Designed for 30000 souls (the same capacity as Gwangmyeong Velodrom, the biggest indoor arena in the world), it was deemed too big for the city.
In the 1980's, Annukka (Raili and Reima's daughter) set upon the task to realise a virtual version of the church. The 5 computers she connected together were, at the time, not powerful enough to produce the complex geomorphic shape conceived by the architects.

3D model by Timo Arjanko
Rendering and animation by Lorenzo Servi (Lumart).
Unbuilt Helsinki is a 1 year research studio and model workshop inside the Museum of Finnish Architecture, initiated and curated by Åbäke and Nene Tsuboi.
