Tactile Robot
Chiba University
Kenzo Nonami's research lab at Chiba University has developed a dual-arm robot capable of digitizing 3D coordinate data from a stereo camera, and also capable of detecting positional measurement.
The robot, which measures 0.8m x 0.8m x 1.1m, uses a DC servomotor, to achieve a 7-degree range of joint movement,.
and through the use of new model-based robot control, multi-dynamic 3D nonlinear movements are possible. Because of this new movement capability, the robot's two arms have the ability to move in coordination. This means that the robot can both grasp and weigh unknown objects.
The new robot uses an AC servomotor to power its 3-finger grip arms, and equipped with a single camera and 6-axis force sensors,
Other future applications that the lab envisions for its new robot include rescue emergencies, outer space development, and nursing assistance.
