hang on... 50mph with 35hp and about a ton of gun and crew onboard + Vehicle weight? are you sure thats not 50kmh? coz 50mph with that amount of power is bordering on the ridiculus (especially considering the thin tires they used back then)
-
@SatchmoSings Thats IMPOSSIBLE. Look closely at the recoil speed, It takes around 1.5-2 seconds for the entire barrel to recoil and return to battery, so the maximum it could possibly achieve with a lightning fast crew is around 25-30 rounds a min... lower but still damn fast for its day.
-
@aglooka The 75 could get off SIXTY rounds per minute; one a second but the barrels could not necessarily sustain such a rate because of the heat.
-
It's just kinda crazy that they had that rate of fire back in the day. Even now we struggle to make something like that D:
-
Well: this is a version of an original field gun: the 75mm mdle 1897 :-), it had a fiiring rate of 20 shots/minute.
-
That's crazy.
Put it behind a gun shield and point it down a little.

I can give you dozens of photos of those cannons in Polish army. We made our own conversion. We instaled the cannon on Polski Fiat 621 truck, made some changes and we got a much better weapon than the original. I can give you statistics of tanks destroyed by our PF621 and Dion cannons.
00:23 is a Dion-Bouton in Polish Army.

Nice video. I´m interested in the era of the two world wars and I really like those old guns.
They actually look more like...guns than the modern ones.
Thanks for posting this, 5*

That is quite clearly not an autocannon. There's nothing automatic about individually handloading each shell by hand into the breach every time it's fired.

The 'auto' part of its name refers to the automobile it is mounted on. The 'cannon' part of its name refers to the cannon that is mounted on the back of the automobile.
At the time, this vehicle with this gun mounted on its back, was called the De Dion et Bouton 75mm Autocannon. That was its name.
