I have the 1840 on loan and it has a sweet midrange, taking off the earpads with the front foams make them sound similar to the DT48 :P

Yes, I believe it. My first reaction to the 1840 was, it's lacking in presence (3 to 7 khz?) compared to hi-fi headphones like the HD800. I got used to it, but removing the foams would make it more lively. My 1840 got donated last week, and I'm currently rotating between the DT770-32-LE, the v-moda M100, the ATH ESW11Ltd, and the Senn Momentum. The DT770 is the only one that gets even close to a DT-48.

dalethorn2, you seem to be one of few guys here who actually knows what he is talking :) I ordered srh440 today, not much but i think it will do. Planing to use it on a tube on and off the work, could you recommend any audio device for that? Cause I think my old Galaxy S won't make the best of 440 phones. or maybe just buy some amp?

Thanks - the 440 should be a good headphone and if the GalaxyS won't drive it fully the best thing I can think of are the FiiO amps, because they're small and they do a really good job. Just check the power specs on the headphone when you get it and the amps and get one with enough power.

I would burn them in for 100 hours then it will have a lot more bass presence. These headphones are so stiff I think they lost customers because honestly it requests a burn in to get what you paid for.
