A vigilante roller coaster herding cats into a river crossing of troubled waters to take a bath in objective subjectivity.
Chaos with an edge slicing boundaries in arrogant humble pie and served on judicious paper plates defining the menu of civilized cannibals.

Democracy is

Messy, unruly and contentious. It is governance with pretensions of amorality justifying the immoral for moral reasons. A consensus of jackals and lambs searching for peace through adversity. Predators and prey shedding and trading skins by mob-rule.

Democracy is

Where the ignorant and the intellectual flip coins of reason and passion hoping for the best and settling for the rest. Imperfect, jaded and cynical, its a free for all of all for all. Dependent upon the vigilance of each according to their greed. Uhhhhh need.

Democracy is

A realization of equality in inequality. Lemmings running back and forth on a beam of the scales of justice trying to find balance. Leaping to knee jerks and trying to reason through the latest Luddite crisis of the falling sky. Illogical in an logical way.

Democracy is

What it is Building civilization one vote at a time.
Searching for freedom in the shackles of social contract.
Quixotic human nature run amuck looking for common ground and
gnawing on bones of contention sharing the cud with your neighbor.
Democracy is the best we got.

Democracy is at its best when it is at its most scrutinized, questioned and challenged. I particularly like the phrases 'A consensus of jackals and lambs' and 'Leaping to knee jerks' in your poem.
