** Warning: This video does not have any sound, and may contain attempted animal cruelty 8^P **

This is an expansion of my previous video for a Minecraft Digital Clock with 1 Digit.

I also found a new way to encode the bit accumulation, with the need for AND gates. They also take far less space, as they require 3x5x4 per bit. This is vastly superior to the 9x5x10 the old design required. And it's faster!

You will see a strange "9" between the 2 and 3. This seems to be a result of the capture being at 25 fps, seeing the transition from 2 to 3 as 9, which is what happens when you overlay 2 and 3 on the display. You don't see that transition in game play, as the refresh rate is faster.

It's complete! You can see it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sv0jFtyDyko

  • Holy cow that is a complicated circuit, you're a genius :P Does the clock actually show the time in the minecraft world, because it seemed to be counting in seconds so is a second a minute in minecraft?

  • @DJGrahamBood

It's a clock timed to real world seconds. It will stop when you log off the server, or exit your single-player game session.

The fastest you can get a clock to change states is at a 5 torch clock. This provides nearly half a second timing. Mine is an 11 clock, which provides a 1 second state change interval.

Minecraft time seems to be 15 minutes of daytime, and 15 minutes of night. So one would need to create two 5 torch clocks on a half interval for it to be Minecraft time.

  • @michamus Can't you make a 1-clock like this? /watch?v=bqaEhk3HfWs

  • @AmusedChicken

Sure, a pulse clock could be used. The only issue is transmitting the pulse clock's output without burning the transmission torches out.

The only reason the pulse clock can even operate so fast is because there is at least one torch active at any given time, while the other 2 or 3 are burned out momentarily.

There's gotta be a way though.

    Appreciate it man. Sub reciprocated.

My wife and I were actually talking about doing this earlier today. I'd imagine it'd have to be a large redstone torch circle, with the second, minute, and hour hands being controlled by a decoding mechanism.

    It'd be quite a challenge.

I actually completed this project with a fully functional 12 hour clock. In the video I go over the logic, and implementation of the clock.

    I even included a save file. ; )

  • or maybe a save file?

  • any chance of a tutorial? i want a 10 minute clock in my smp world on top of a mountain looking over spaghettitown but i'm too dumb to figure it out :l
