周采芹 - The Ding Dong Song

Suzie Wong ( 苏丝黄) 可算是香港一个传奇。她是属真还是只是虚构就好像没人知道了 Richard Mason 于1957年出版的小说很快便被搬上舞台，很快便被改拍成电影。电影是 (Nancy Kwan 关南施) 原名关家茜与 (William Holden 廉荷顿) 合演。「苏丝黄的世界 The World Of Suzie Wong 」打造了香港在西方人眼中的形象。这份前英国殖民地的维多利亚风情，经历半世纪的变迁，已面目全非，也许只能重踏一个老外画家和一个中国酒吧女郎 (香港俗称吧女) 的恋爱足迹，寻找失落了的风景。提及Suzie Wong 令人想起电影女主角 Nancy Kwan 外，也会令人想起英国舞台剧的 Tsai Chin 周采芹。她就是「The Ding Dong Song」的原唱者。

Tsai Chin (1937 - 至今) ，中文名为周采芹，又名 Irene Chow ，生于天津，是京剧大师 Zhou Xin-Fang 周信芳的女儿。1953年她成为第一名中国人到伦敦 Royal Academy of Dramatic Art 学习戏剧。1959年参与英国版舞台剧「苏丝黄的世界 The World Of Suzie Wong 」 的演出，并且演唱主题曲「The Ding Dong Song」。 「苏丝黄的世界 The World Of Suzie Wong 」drew a full house for 3 years。 During the late 1960s， she was nominated for Best Actress for her role in Granada Televisions production of 「A Subject of Struggle」as Chinese first lady Wang Guang Mei。她至今作仍拍摄电影，铁金钢 James Bond 「You Only Live Twice」(1967) and 「Casino Royale」 (2006)，Joy Luck Club 喜福会( 1993)，Memoirs of a Geisha 艺妓回忆录 (2005) produced by Steven Spielberg。She is probably best known for her role as Lin Tang，the diabolic daughter of Dr. Fu Manchu in the Christopher Lee Fu Manchu movies。演主角的戏，除了年轻时在英国舞台上的「苏丝黄的世界 The World Of Suzie Wong 」之外，也在踏入中年后，与卢燕，阮兰丝等人合演过喜福会 (The Joy Luck Club ) 一片。

1988年出版自传 Daughter of Shanghai (上海的女儿) ，谈及她从上海到伦敦再辗转到 LA 发展的奋斗史。Tsai Chin's autobiography「Daughter of Shanghai」was first commissioned in the UK for local and the US markets during the 1980s。This was followed by a Hong Kong translation in the 1990s and a mainland China edition in 2002。

Apart from being an actress，Tsai Chin has an impressive directors credit of Seagull by Chehkov and Shakespeare's Tempest and Twelve Nights。

Tsai Chin now makes Los Angeles her home。

姚莉主唱的「玫瑰玫瑰我爱你」是第一首中国流行歌曲被翻成英文歌「Rose Rose I Love You」，而「The Ding Dong Song」 便是第2首了。它由姚敏作曲，易文填词，写于1956年，原名为「第二春」， 由香港歌星董佩佩原唱。 1959年英国上演舞台剧「苏丝黄的世界The World Of Suzie Wong 」，于是便买下此曲的国际版权，其且由Lionel Bart 填上简单的歌词，成为「The Ding Dong Song」，Side B 便是此曲的原装国语版「The Second Spring」。唱片由Harry Robinson 编曲，英国 Decca 唱片出版，意想不到此张单曲大受欢迎，销售量之巨，就是 Decca 唱片也吃了一惊。 Although the two songs were not made with Hong Kong and Singapore audiences in mind，「 Rose Rose I Love You 」and 「The Ding Dong Song」 became popular local nightclub songs and are well-remembered in Hong Kong and Singapore today。「The Ding Dong Song」was top of the charts in Asia for two consecutive years。

「The Ding Dong Song 」：周采芹灌录此曲为1959年，但翌年演而优则唱的女星葛兰也曾把此英语版翻唱，收录于野玫瑰之恋专辑内。第二春改成「The Ding Dong Song 」 之后，出身东方的潘迪华和葛兰都唱过。潘迪华先在夜总会唱英文歌出名。「The Ding Dong Song 」被她选为主要歌唱项目之一。葛兰曾被邀到美国与丹娜萧 Dinah Shore 同台表演，因此也灌唱过一些英文歌曲。

「The Ding Dong Song 」 调子轻快，加上周采芹中国娃娃式的演唱，使到歌曲有点像儿歌。

In 1959, I was part of the Western Imperialist subjugation of South East Asia; however, being merely the 10-year old son of an RAF man posted there as part of his dutied obligation to his country's policies, I totally failed to appreciate this fact! I lived in Singapore for 3 wonderful years of my childhood, and I loved to hear Tsai Chin singing this song on the radio - both in Mandarin, and in English, Thank you so much for posting it.
