Learning to fly in circles - RC heli flight school v1.1

Learning to fly an RC helicopter can be difficult and using a simulator like Phoenix is the best approach. If you are starting with a blade 400 from e-flite or a larger T-Rex helicopter from align a simulator will give you confidence when you go to the field. Follow along and when you have mastered this step move on to the next video in the series.

Chad, I really like your lessons. I have much to learn. I have been flying for about 3 months with tail-in and side-in hovering and very basic FFF. Can you tell me how you can control the forward speed so well with the heli? Every time I try, the heli goes scooting off full speed forward. Do I need to add positive elevator or less collective, or both? Thanks for your help.

Basically once you get into FFF you keep the heli in the turn with the elevator and adjust the height using the aileron and speed with collective. It ends up being a balancing act between all of those controls that keep the heli at a constant speed and height. With practice it will come to you. First you will be able to groove it into a turn and hold it and then you will be able to adjust it. It takes some time to learn.

is that phonix rc simulater is it a good sim

@ScOpEx80 I think he's using rate mode not heading hold on the gyro. If you notice he is not touching the rudder much at all during the turn. In rate mode the wind automatically makes the tail point in the right direction. Doing those circles like that in heading hold takes a lot more practice since you always have to keep adding rudder to make sure the tail is always behind you.
