  • Saw the Mary Chain in Dublin in '98 shortly before they split - William gloomily remarked after 'Head On' (while the crowd was still cheering) that he hated playing it. "What a miserable git," I remember thinking. Anyway, it seems he still feels that way - he's taking the piss out of the song, he's playing badly on purpose and I think Jim wants to smack him one. I know I would!

The whole scene died in the mid 90's/ Christ my sister bought some combat style pants for 80 quid in some top designer store. I was like, NO you get real ones from a army surpluss store for a tenner. Moterhead teashirts sold in Top Shop!!! What metal head shops there! All subcultures have been bought up, theres no underground scene anymore

When I heard the Gallagher bros rabbiting on about their designer sunglasses I knew indie was dying. It was never about labels! It was about army surpluss store clothes, second hand clothes and tiedying yr own tieshirts. Making music in garages and not selling out to the big boys. Original and honest. See lush, see ride, see pop will eat itself, see curve. Anything but the homogenised shit out today.

I was commenting on the comment about Mary Chain being britpop which was mainstream in the 80's. Britpop didn't come into play until 1994-5 onwards with Oasis and Blurs later stuff (first album Leisure was totally baggy Manchester sound indie even tho they were southerners). Mary Chain started as alternative 80's and there was a strong subculture of independent music 80's to early 90's.
