A tether is the most important part of a forward facing car seat - but not all vehicles have the anchors to connect the tether to. Tether anchors (for forward-facing car seats) are standard in all cars, trucks, vans & SUVs in the US since model year 2001 - but those with vehicles model year 2000 or older that do not have tether anchors typically CAN RETROFIT a tether anchor (often quite easily and inexpensively).

  • @abbielynn84 - it depends on the SUV whether it is possible to install on your own or whether it needs the dealership. If the anchor is in the roof (like many old subarus) or on the back of the vehicle seat (like many older volvo wagons) then it would be easy to do by yourself.

  • I never knew this was something someone could do themselves. Would you advise that someone install their own in an suv?
