A WELCOME from Dr. Shani Gray, the African Project Director

Africa is a large continent and home to a wide diversity of religions, culture & customs. Specific wedding rituals vary from region to region, but one important aspect for all African weddings is to embrace the meaning of 'Family'. In Africa, marriage unifies two families or even the mixture of two tribes into one unit. It is meant to be a joyful celebration for the union of two hearts, two families and two tribes. Bright festive colors, songs, dances, and music are vital elements of many African wedding ceremonies. Today, we will present Nigerian Wedding Traditions to provide a glimpse into African values and cultural beliefs. Please be aware that because of the time limit, many traditions have to be skipped in this performance.
