Date: Thursday 25 December 1997
This edition is a special edition of the game show as it is the first and only Christmas special. This special was hosted by William G. Stewart who filled in for Richard Whiteley and Richard Whiteley and Carol King (Vorderman) were the contestants. In Dictionary Corner were Magnus Magnusson as the special guest and Mark Nyman as the lexicographer. Susie Dent took Carol's role for the letters and numbers.
"I pressed the button to start the clock - I apologise." Absolutely hilarious - one of the best moments ever on Channel 4. Force of habit is very powerful!

I got it this way:
100x10=1000
9x4=36
36+10=46
46+1=47
1000-47=953.

9 * 4 = (36)
10 * 100 = 1000
(1000) - (36) = 964
(964) - 10 = 954
(954) - 1 = 953
Figured this out during the 30 seconds, and I'm terrible with the numbers game. :)
