Yes, troubles with gangsters in Chicago. He prefered to make a long tour in Europe, England and Danemark (where he was miracaly filmed).
In France also, he was drived by Jacques Canetti (producer of the Brunswick record ?), the most important producer of the french postwar song.
When Armstrong returned in States, it was the swing era...

Hi, North Atlantic!
The really good "dippermouth blog" has an excellent account of this record on his current blog, dated Sunday November 29th 2009.
Also he has blogs about several versions of this tune played by Louis and The All Stars in the 1940s and 1950s.
The blogger is Ricky Riccardi, the Project Archivist at the Louis Armstrong House Museum in New York. (Lucky him!)

Thankyou, North Atlantic. This was recorded in Paris in 1934, Louis was on a European tour.
The michaleminn discography says that apart from this tune, Louis didn't record anything after April 1933 for a year and a half... "An inconceivable break for such an incomparable star at the pinnacle of his craft." Something to do with USA gangsters and his USA managers, apparently.
THIS IS MAJESTIC!!!!!! ^^
